In a 6-month, process-of-care study evaluating effectiveness of statin titration on LDL-C goal attainment, conducted by Foley et al in 2,829 high-risk patients with CHD or diabetes who were treated with a statin, 52%, or 1,464 patients, did not achieve their LDL-C goal of <100 mg/dL on the initial dose. While titrating the statin dose is one strategy for helping patients reach their LDL-C goal, this study by Foley et al showed that 55%, or 813 patients, who had not reached goal on a starting dose were never subsequently titrated. Of those who were titrated, most only once, 69% did not reach LDL-C goal.
